Newspapers
  • Which daily newspapers (if any) do you read?  I don't read newspapers, but when I come across them, I read the Metro.
  • What sections of newspapers do you turn to first, and why? I mostly view the first page of the newspaper as it includes all the publication information and to read the main stories. The front of the newspaper attracts the most people by putting the most popular news on the front. 
  • What sections do you never read, and why? I mostly skim through the newspaper however I find the sports section quite boring.
  • What kinds of stories do you usually read and why? Sometimes I read about the politics news and what is currently happening in the parliament or worldly news to be aware of what's happening.
  • Do you, or someone else, buy the newspaper you read? My parents sometimes bring newspapers back from work and if I have the time to read it, I read it. Sometimes I find them on a bus and take a quick read of the front page.
  • Do you look at the online versions of any newspapers? Which newspapers? Why do you visit their website and not others? I mostly use BBC News as I have been using that since high school as I find it easy to use and I don't use other websites because I am familiar with the BBC website the most.

Magazines
  • What magazines (if any) do you buy regularly?  Why/why not? I don't buy or read any magazines because I find them uninteresting and boring.
  • What sections of the magazines do you read and not read, and why? If I were to read a magazine I would read the front page and front of book content to view the quick hit trend pieces or publisher focused content.

Television
  • Approximately how many hours a week do you spend watching television? 8-10 hours a week.
  • What device do you use to watch television? Toshiba
  • What times of day do you usually watch television? Usually the evenings after I finish 
  • What programmes do you like best and why? I love the chase because it's an interesting and knowledgeable game show.
  • Do you watch alone or with others? If you watch with others, who decides what you will watch? I mainly watch it with my younger brother and if my parents have free time they will also watch it with us.
  • Do you watch 'live' TV or on-demand/catch-up? Do you use any other devices to watch TV (such as laptop or tablet?) I mainly use my laptop.

Radio
  • Do you listen to the radio? I don't listen to the radio unless I'm with my parents in the car, listening to the daily news or desi radio.
  • If yes, what stations do you like best and why? I don't have any radio stations I like.
  • Do you listen to podcasts? I don't listen to podcasts frequently. 
  • If yes, what podcasts have you listened to recently? The only podcast I have listened to is Something Scary podcast. I like that podcast because it is entertaining and interesting to listen to.
  • Approximately how many hours a week do you spend listening to podcasts or radio? I don't listen to podcasts frequently however if I do, I would spend maybe less then an hour (30-45 minutes).
  • What times of the day do you usually listen to podcasts or radio? I would usually listen to podcasts in the afternoon.
  • Where do you listen to podcast or radio? If I do listen to the podcast, I would listen to it on my phone. 
  • What other activities (if any) do you do whilst listening? I would sometimes tidy up my room and do a bit of cleaning around the house while listening to the podcast.
  • Does anyone else in your house listen to the radio or podcasts? If so, when do they listen? My younger brother does not listen to radios or podcasts. When in the car, my parents listen to desi radio.

Film
  • What films have you seen in the cinema in the last month? In the last month I have watched Barbie and Mastaney in the cinemas last month.
  • What films have you seen in other places – for example, through Netflix, Amazon Prime, satellite/cable film channels (free or otherwise) or streaming? I watched Train to Busan, and Peninsula which are Korean horror and action films.
  • Who else watched the films with you? My younger brother mainly watches films with me and my parents decide to watch it with us sometimes.
  • Who decided what films to watch? Mainly I decide what films to watch, and sometimes my younger brother.
  • What devices do you typically use to watch films: TV, laptop, tablet, phone etc.? I always use my laptop to watch movies.

Online
  • How often do you access the internet? I access the internet everyday.
  • Where do you access the internet? At home, at school, commuting etc- I access the internet at home, at school, and at libraries when I go study there.
  • What are the main sites that you access? For education I mostly access Google classroom, and Gmail/mail to check on homework or any updates on the system. I also use WhatsApp and other social media platforms like Snapchat, Instagram, Tiktok and Twitter.
  • What are the main reasons for accessing these sites – for example, for information, to make purchases, communicate with friends or for entertainment? I use Google Classroom for education and homework. I use social media to keep in contact with friends and family, to keep for daily news or updates and for entertainment.
  • What other activities (if any) do you do whilst accessing the internet? I play online games or watch TV shows.
  • What different devices do you use to access the internet? What is your primary device for accessing the internet? My primary devices for accessing the internet is my phone and my laptop.
  • What social networks do you use regularly (e.g. Twitter, Instagram)? Why do you belong to these networks in particular? I use Snapchat, WhatsApp and Tiktok the most. I use it for entertainment and mostly for keeping contact with my friends and family.

Final section: reflection
  • How can you develop the amount and variety of media you consume? To reduce my screen time when having no work to do, and to do more physical activities instead of using social media most the time.
  • What will you change in your media consumption habits this year as a result of studying A Level Media? I will put a screen time limit to minimise the use of social media, and to access the internet for editing, creating magazine covers and to learn more media skills.
  • List three sources of media (websites/newspapers/apps/TV programmes etc.) that you will start to access this year that you haven't engaged with previously - I will start practising Duolingo again as it allows me to learn a new language by doing daily activities to strengthen my vocab. I will explore new newspapers online and reading them to find more worldly news; like The Telegraph, Mirror, The Sun. I will start using Quizlet more often to help me with flashcards and small, quick notes for my A level subjects.
